Kathy Ruiz, LCSW, RYT
Kathy is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Utah with over a decade of experience in experiential outdoor education and clinical treatment. She has worked in a variety of settings including criminal justice, foster care, residential treatment, hospital social work to wilderness therapy. Kathy has a background in teaching Hatha yoga, and believes in gentle movement and breath to help clients ground themselves and build sustainable organic coping strategies to deal with trauma as well as everyday stressors. Kathy is trained in Brainspotting and loves using this intervention with clients who are feeling stuck or like they have tried ‘everything’ to address their personal challenges.
Queer-identified, Kathy loves working with LGBTQ+ clients, and meets them wherever they are on their journey of identity discovery and formation. Kathy is skilled at creating strong trusting alliances with her clients, and is often described as deeply caring and firm. Kathy takes a no-nonsense approach, and uses the genuine trust and bond she builds to lovingly challenge and push clients deeper into their process. Kathy is deeply passionate about assisting clients on integrating their treatment experience into their current lives, and supporting young adults in navigating the journey of thriving in their lives.
In her personal time, Kathy can be found with her partner and pooch mountain biking, canyoneering, backcountry skiing, overlanding, and cuddling her daughter!
