Amanda Wallace, LPC, Hypnotherapist, EMDR & BSP Practitioner

Description
Practitioner Name: Amanda Wallace MA, LPC

I have been in private practice for over twenty years in the Boulder area and I truly love the work I do. I have a holistic and integrative approach to help my clients develop mental and emotional health and wellbeing. I combine my background in hypnotherapy with mindfulness, CBT, EMDR and more recently working with the subconscious mind and nervous system through Brainspotting. Brainspotting has been such a powerful tool to be able to include in my work as it also provides a door way into the deeper parts of the mind that we can’t access on a conscious level. I also have training in IFS (Internal Family Systems) therapy to help support my clients coping with PTSD and complex trauma. This approach also blends well with hypnotherapy because we are working with the subconscious mind and sub parts or sub personalities. We all have different parts of ourselves that get activated depending on the situation or environment or people we are with. These parts of ourselves develop early on in life as coping strategies. Often they are unconscious ways to maintain attachment and connection with our care givers and to protect us from feeling or being hurt, rejected, criticized, or abandoned in some way. At one time they were adaptive strategies but over time can become maladaptive. So the modalities and tools I use help my clients become more  regulated, self aware, flexible and so they have the power of conscious choice in the moment rather then responding or reacting unconsciously and defensively.

CBT is also interwoven into my sessions very organically as I help my clients become more and more conscious of their negative, self defeating and/or fear inducing self talk and develop an inner dialogue that is more positive and optimistic or at least neutral. This is key in learning to how to emotionally regulate and stop spiraling down into anxious and depressed states of being. Along with Mindfulness techniques and other tools I use to reduce anxiety and stress, I help my clients develop more presence, deeper connection with their body so they are more grounded, and stable and can live more joyfully.
