Blind and Back Blind Brainspotting: Treating Early Childhood Trauma And Prenatal Trauma
“Blind and Back Blind Brainspotting: Treating Early Childhood Trauma and Prenatal Trauma” with Michel Allon, PhD
WEDNESDAY February 11, 2025 from 10am-12:00PM Mountain Time (**note different time/day of week*)
Recording Available; 1.5 CEs pending approval
**If you’d like to volunteer to be a demo, please email us a brief description of your early childhood/prenatal trauma**
In the workshop, using both lecture and live demonstration, participants will learn how to identify individuals with early infant trauma (below the age of 2 years of age) or prenatal trauma. We will discuss how to treat early infant trauma and/or prenatal trauma using Brainspotting and the use of one’s sixth sense in their healing process. The main aim of the workshop will be how to treat early infant trauma and prenatal trauma using the sixth sense in the Brainspotting modality.
The course will include both live demonstration and lecture. The goals of the presentation will be:
- How to identify early infant trauma using Brainspotting and the theory behind this identification method.
- How to treat early infant trauma using Brainspotting.
- How to identify and treat prenatal trauma using Brainspotting.
- In the practice of Brainspotting how to verify if early infant trauma and prenatal trauma exists.
- Coming out of my research on prenatal trauma and Brainspotting, I will also briefly present how to treat individuals who are traumatized by an incident of clinical death.
About Michell:
I am Canadian born but did my University studies in the USA. I have a BA in psychology from Yeshiva Univiersity in NY, a Masters in Developmental Psychology from Yeshiva University in NY, and a Doctorate in School Psychology and Developmental Psychology from University of Nebraska in Lincoln. Upon completion of my Doctorate I moved to Israel in 1983. In 1989 I was introduced to EMDR when Francine Shapiro was invited to Israel to present her research on: Treating US army Vietnam veterans suffering from post-trauma. After this presentation I began working using EMDR with children and adults. In the early 2000s I was introduced to David Grand, who was then an EMDR trainer. During a weekend workshop in Istanbul, Turkey, where he was presenting advanced EMDR techniques, he told me about his discovery of Brainspotting. There was as yet no formal training. Upon my return to Israel, I began to experiment with his technique and found it very successful. Three years later, David came to Israel and did a BSP training and we shared our findings. One of the things that fascinated me from David’s findings was that BSP was also effective working with blind individuals. Working with 30 clients a week I gained a lot of experience and knowledge from my clients. In addition, from my developmental background, I combined the two to better understand how infants, below the age of two years experience trauma and how to treat their post-trauma using BSP. In 2019 I attended an advanced BSP workshop with David in Barcelona. At that time David asked me to start teaching Brainspotting in Israel. Because of Covid 19, I did not start to teach until 2023.
